EMMA VAN KAMPEN ↘

A motion graphic designer, animator and student. What started out as a hobby for me has now become my dream job. I always try to learn more to improve my animations, and love seeing the work of other talented artists who share the same passion. I’m currently studying motion graphic design in the Netherlands and work part-time for Socialdatabase. Below, I’ve showcased some of my past work and projects that I’m proud of, and I hope you will share that appreciation for these projects as well. Hope you enjoy <3

BOB

ASSIGNMENT ↘

For this assignment we had to create an animation using the following principles of animation; squash/stretch, anticipation and follow through. I tried to experiment more with layer styles and colors, so for the design, I took inspiration from Emanuele Colombo. While making the animation, my friends named him Bob. Say hi to Bob!

CHARACTER ANIMATION

ASSIGNMENT ↘

The goal of this assignment was to design and animate a character to the song I picked and make the character fit the song in question. I designed the character to be a bit funky and colorful, to fit the vibe of the song. I took inspiration from Emanuele Colombo’s designs.

DESIGN YOUR SONG

ASSIGNMENT ↘

For this project the main goal was to create a lyric video for a song of choice using mainly typography. We had a lot of creative freedom so I experimented a bit with grains and a pixel style and found a few fitting fonts to try out something new. Reminder that you can toggle the sound and note that there is a pause in the middle of the video before it continues!

JUNE 2024

BATTLE OF THE CLIPS

ASSIGNMENT ↘

For this project we were divided in teams of 3-4 people. Each team had to pick a song and create an animation to the song. Eventually there would be a battle between different video clips and an award ceremony. We beat our competitor and ended up winning the Public vote and the Best Video Titles! I did it together with Mijs Coolegem and Naïma van Deursen.
I cut out some of my favorite parts I animated.

LOTTIE ANIMATIONS

DESCRIPTION ↘

When I had first joined Socialdatabase, they were working on their new website and brand identity. They wanted to include animations into their website but didn’t want to sacrifice the quick loading time of the website by adding in big animation files nor the quality of the animations, so they found a solution, Lotties! I was pretty new to this, but after some experimenting we got it to work! I made a few for them and you can still find one on the website. This was my first time working with Bodymovin and Lottie, it was a bit tricky to learn what is supported and what isn’t, but eventually I got the hang of it. You can’t use any effects or certain expressions, but although it was a challenge, I’m excited to see the future of web-based animations and plan on continuing to experiment with it.

STRAWBERRY KISSES

POST ↘

My part of my collaboration with @blazation on Instagram. We worked together on the intro and had our separate parts after, originally she created the Game Boy design, which I later added on to by adding animations and pixel art, like the stickers on the Game boy. For my individual part, I wanted to keep some digital and pixel elements, to match with the intro.
